Banpu NEXT, a leading Net Zero Solutions provider in the Asia-Pacific region, announced its ambitious commitment to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2040 for its Thailand operations, establishing comprehensive strategies and a roadmap that targets a 30% emissions reduction by 2030 for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and a 50% reduction across all scopes by 2035. This announcement demonstrates the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship while actively contributing to Thailand’s national Net Zero targets and creating sustainable value for businesses, communities, and stakeholders across its operational ecosystem. 

The detailed roadmap, verified by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO), establishes 2023 as the baseline year. With an annual emissions reduction target of around 6%, Banpu NEXT’s plan aligns with science-based trajectories and global climate goals. As a significant milestone on this journey, Banpu NEXT will achieve Carbon Neutrality in 2025. The company has successfully completed annual Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO) verification processes and continues this practice as part of its ongoing sustainability commitment. Additionally, Banpu NEXT is advancing toward TGO’s Net Zero Pathway, which follows rigorous national methodologies that complement global climate action frameworks, further strengthening the company’s credible approach to emissions reduction.

By setting clear, measurable goals and implementing a comprehensive strategy across all three emission scopes, we’re creating a blueprint not only for our own decarbonization but also for businesses and supply chains. From our successful first step in 2023, we’ve already been certified for Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO) by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) and achieved significant emissions reduction through efficient energy management practices. We also used the International REC Standard (I-REC) to offset all carbon emissions for Scope 2 of Banpu NEXT and its Thai subsidiaries. Additionally, in 2024, we managed carbon offset through the carbon credits mechanism. Looking ahead, we’ve set an ambitious long-term target to reduce emissions across all scopes by 50% by 2035. As we continue this journey, we remain committed to empowering our partners and customers with the expertise, technology, and solutions they need to achieve their own sustainability goals.” 

Banpu NEXT’s roadmap is built on four strategic pillars that address all aspects of emissions reduction: 

1. Comprehensive emissions reduction across all scopes: implementing smart maintenance programs utilizing AI and data analytics to extend equipment lifespan and reduce refrigerant leakage, while transitioning some of its vehicle fleets to electric vehicles by 2030 through a phased approach (reducing our Scope 1), launching employee awareness initiatives, carbon reduction activities, and developing high energy-efficient facilities (reducing our Scope 2), and selecting suppliers that deliver high-efficiency, low-energy consuming equipment and services, and align with ESG principles (impact on our Scope 3). 

2. Clean energy portfolio expansion: Offering comprehensive clean energy solutions bundle with Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from our suppliers and business partners that help customers reduce their footprints while indirectly lowering Banpu NEXT’s Scope 3 footprint. 

3. Carbon removal initiatives: Seeking more strategic opportunities for tree plantation with government and private sector partners and exploring the possibility of utilizing the amount of carbon removal projects from tree plantation to support TGO carbon neutrality certification. 

4. Stakeholder empowerment: Providing Net Zero Solutions and access to RECs and carbon credits to help businesses achieve their own sustainability goals and contribute to driving Net Zero society. 

The way forward for Banpu NEXT’s 2025 operational plan focuses on three key areas: restructuring its portfolio with an emphasis on maintaining asset quality, evaluating strategic investments to strengthen business operations and expand the value chain of our Net Zero solutions, while increasing digital technology adoption to enhance operational efficiency.
